WISE SOUL HOMESCHOOL

Vermont Home- and Unschool Supports + Writing on Unschool Life

WELCOME

Wise soul homeschool = your wise soul, evolving alongside your children. Enough already, always enough. Just as you are.

As homeschooling parents, we hold so much simultaneously. The needs and strengths, challenges and dreams of each of our children and ourselves. The enormous beauty, vitality and freedom of a normal homeschool day alongside exhaustion and isolation. Growing awareness of what is possible outside of the limitations of schooled thinking.

The wisdom that already exists within each child and within your self is a powerful source to intentionally access and consciously utilize for homeschool life. I create supports that are grounded in this truth.

VT LICENSED TEACHER END OF YEAR ASSESSMENT ("EOYA")

I maintain my teaching license so that I can support homeschool families who want help complying with the state’s requirements in a way that minimizes stress. The kids and parents I work with enjoy sharing their learning with me, and I provide a PDF of the EOYA for them to submit to the state.

USE YOUR OUTSIDE VOICE!

Lara, Carter, and I come together in conversation to make Use Your Outside Voice Podcast,  discussing living authentically with children and rejecting the school model of relationship. Being real about power and oppression, evolution, healing, and more. Come listen and get fueled up!

“Whatever an education is, it should make you a unique individual, not a conformist; it should furnish you with an original spirit with which to tackle the big challenges; it should allow you to find values which will be your roadmap through life; it should make you spiritually rich, a person who loves whatever you are doing, wherever you are, whomever you are with; it should teach you what is important, how to live and how to die.”

THE SKINNY ON ME:

I’m Katie Lane-Karnas, mother to Mae (12), Niko, and Juniper (10), unschooling in central Vermont. I grew up in a professional education family, hold a bachelor’s degree in Music Education, and master’s work in Literacy. I’ve been studying learning, schools, and freedom my whole life. I taught and learned in public schools and prisons in NJ, NY, and VT and observed hundreds of hours of preschools in a research position. After the homebirths of my daughters and the death of my second child, I began walking the path of my most authentic living. Life without school emerged as the most life-affirming (and least expected) path forward for my family. I create supports for homeschool and unschool parents, and help homeschooling families in Vermont meet state requirements with ease.
